Some History


It all starts in Kibbutz Gan Shmuel in northern Israel in 1942.

There is no European market for citrus fruits immediately following World War II and acres of produce are just going to waste.

 

Gan Shmuel, originally "Gan Shmuel Production and Preservatives", starts processing about 200 tons of fruit a year. It also produces jams and other preserves.

 

Export to Europe begins in the mid-50's and in 1958 we open the first comminute production factory in the world. we're also the first to produce cloudy concentrates.

 

 

 

1960's

 

Gan Shmuel starts trading with the Japanese market.

1974

Another world first – the first aseptic packaging line for citrus products.


1975

Tomato processing begins


1979

The Ganir Company is launched by Kibbutz Gat and Kibbutz Beit Nir, and begins citrus fruit processing for the international beverages market.


1990

Gan Shmuel exports soar to $40 million.


1991

Ganir begins producing chilled products. Within a very short time it wins the largest share of this market in Israel.


1993

Gan Shmuel becomes a public company.


2001

The first raw materials supply contract in China is signed between Ganir and one of the largest Chinese juice companies.


2002

The Yotvata Dairies, a subsidiary of the Strauss-Elite Company, acquires 20% of Ganir.


2003

Gan Shmuel acquires "Gan Pelech," which means ownership of 10% of all of Israel's orchards.


OVER THE YEARS

Gan Shmuel acquires overseas subsidiaries in Italy, Poland, Spain, Uruguay and South Africa.


 

Gan Shmuel has twice won the KAPLAN AWARD. This is the most important official Israeli Award acknowledging increased production and efficiency in industry.

The prize is awarded to organizations or persons having made notable achievements which contribute to the advancement of industry and encourage innovation and creativity.


During the 1970's Gan Shmuel received the award for innovation in the field of industry and for increasing efficiency in work output, and in 1994 for development and innovation in the field of "filling lines" in packaging.

 

2007

Ganir is officially chosen as exclusive juice supplier for the McDonald's fast-food chain in Israel.


2007

 

Gan Shmuel merges with Ganir to become Gan Shmuel Group. The company processes approximately 150,000 tons of citrus fruits and another 60,000 tons of tomatoes. Sales of the new company are more than $262 million.
